DSI pioneered implantable telemetry and has been continually refining the technology since 1984. Cited in over 7,000 research publications, researchers continue to trust DSI and our expertise to provide the best overall solutions for numerous applications.

Implantable telemetry collects, high quality data from stress-free, conscious and freely moving laboratory animals of various sizes. This method gives researchers the confidence that they are acquiring data in the most translatable and reproducable way, while being able to greatly reduce their subject number thanks to increased statistical power that comes with continous data. Our implantable telemetry is the smallest on the market, allowing for the collection of highly impactful data from small transgenic, juvenille and female subjects, all while increasing the overall animal welfare.

Stress-Free Cardiovascular Assessments

DSI products are used in cardiovascular research to study hypertension, cardio-metabolism, arrhythmias, atherosclerosis, heart failure, MI, stroke, and drug safety. Some of the biomarkers that can be collected include blood pressure, heart rate, heart rate variabilitybaroreflexpulse wave velocityECGleft ventricular pressure, right ventricular pressure, and many more.

Whole Body Plethysmography

DSI's Buxco Whole Body Plethysmography allows for continous collection of respiration in conscious, unrestrained animals. The animal is placed a chamber and allowed to breathe naturally, unrestrained and untethered. The system measures the tiny air flow which is exchanged in and out of the entire chamber due to the animal's respiration (called box flow). By applying Boyle's Law, the box flow can be correlated to the animal's respiratory flow.

Combination Approaches

Telemetric recording is considered the gold standard in animal physiology research because of its ability to collect data in free-roaming, unstressed and unanesthetized models. Thanks to the freedom telemetry provides, behavioral researchers achieve a combined evaluation of physiology and behavior for a complete and comprehensive preclinical assessment. Investigating the relationship between physiological and behavioral data can lead to a better understanding of your research results through interactions or responses illustrated by synchronized data.
