Data Sciences International (DSI) in Space

St. Paul, MN (PRWEB) May 14, 2013 - DSI Technology Used to Study Mice in Russian Space Mission

Data Sciences International (DSI) has taken part in an exciting study involving its products traveling to space. DSI was approached nearly four years ago by a European researcher working in collaboration with the European Space Agency and the Russian Space Agency on a study measuring the effects space travel has on the physiology of animals. On April 19th, a Russian space mission called Bion-M No.1, successfully launched a satellite containing several mice implanted with DSI’s telemetry into space.

The Bion-M No.1, which is part of the Bion series of spaceflights (a series of Russian biosatellites) collaborated with the European Space Agency in preparation for the launch. The implanted mice were monitored prior to the launch date and researchers will continually monitor the animals throughout the duration of the flight, including take-off and landing. They are measuring food and water intake, behavior by video, and continuous systemic blood pressure with DSI telemetry. The researchers hope the study will give a better understanding of the impact space flight has on the physiology of humans and animals. The space craft is scheduled to return on May 18th.
