Surgical Services FAQs for Continuous Glucose Telemetry Implants
Which surgical services are available for DSI’s continuous glucose telemetry implants?
DSI’s Surgical Services team is prepared to help researchers with the following services:
Individual surgical training at DSI’s headquarters (HD-XG only)
Onsite surgical training at a customer’s site
Onsite surgical implantation at a customer’s site
What will the customer be able to demonstrate after a successful surgical training session?
Customers currently using DSI telemetry to monitor blood pressure in the same species should be able to successfully perform continuous glucose telemetry surgeries immediately after training.
Customers who are new to survival surgeries in the species or telemetry will learn what is needed to set up their operating facility and begin practicing. After training, additional practice will be required and new users will experience the typical learning curve associated with adoption of telemetry. With consistent practice, most customers are able to perform successful survival surgeries within a few weeks of training.
How many animals can the Surgical Services team implant during a day of implantation services at a customer’s site?
One DSI surgeon can implant approximately 5 rodents or 2-3 large animals per day if the customer provides someone to assist our surgeon with tasks such as anesthetizing, prepping and recovering the animals.
How many animals should I plan to include in my study?
Our Services team is happy to help you determine an appropriate number of animals. Depending on the model being used, we typically recommend the inclusion of a small number of additional animals to ensure you have sufficient numbers to meet your study goals.
Can the DSI team deliver onsite training and implantation services during the same trip?
Yes, this can be done, however, training and implantation services will not be covered in the same day. One full day would be devoted to training and the remaining time would be dedicated to completing the desired number of surgeries for implantation services.
What are the surgical requirements for training and implantation services at a researcher’s site?
Please contact Surgical Services to determine if the site has access to appropriate surgical facilities and to discuss the additional materials needed to ensure a successful experience.
