DSI Products
DSI products are used in cardiovascular research to study hypertension, cardiometabolism, arrythmias, atherosclerosis, heart failure, MI, stroke, and drug safety, including CNS safety assessment. Some of the biomarkers that can be collected include blood pressure, heart rate, blood glucose, EEG, EMG, heart rate variabilitybaroreflexpulse wave velocityECGleft ventricular pressure, and many more.

Cardiovascular
Small Animal
PhysioTel HD-X and HD-S series telemetry implants are used in small animals such as mice, rats, ferrets or guinea pigs. These implants are capable of measuring pressure, temperature, activity and biopotential signals.

Large Animal
PhysioTel Digital M and L series implants are designed for single use or long-term implantation in animals of rabbit size or larger. These implants are capable of measuring pressure, temperature, activity and biopotential signals.

Metabolism
The HD XG and M series continuous glucose telemetry implants offer preclinical researchers a novel solution to obtain continuous, real-time, blood glucose, temperature, and activity measurements in laboratory mice, rats and large animals. This solution serves many research areas including diabetes, obesity, and other metabolic diseases, including cardiometabolism.

Ponemah Software

Ponemah software is trusted by hypertension researchers around the world to reliably and accurately acquire and analyze Blood Pressure and ECG endpoints.

BP is used to analyze pressure from the circulatory system and can derive, on a beat-to-beat basis, values for the cardiac cycle such as Systolic, Diastolic, HR, and +/-dP/dt. This type of analysis may be used to determine if an animal model of hypertension has been successfully created, to study the effects and progression of disease and to determine if treatments are effective.

ECG computes physiologically meaningful parameters on a beat-to-beat basis, for each cardiac cycle, such as HR, RR-I, QT-I, and QRS width. Researchers interested in hypertension often use ECG measurements to look for potential damage to the heart because of high blood pressure. If collecting BP with ECG, the cross-channel calculation of QA interval may also be measured to assess mechanical vs electrical effects.

Ponemah also offers time and frequency domain HRV analysis. HRV is the physiologic phenomenon of variation in the time interval between heartbeats and is often used in diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension.

The baroreflex is the fastest mechanism to regulate acute blood pressure changes via controlling heart rate, contractility, and peripheral resistance.  The baroreflex or baroreceptor sensitivity (BRS) index is a measurement to quantify how much control the baroreflex has on the heart rate.  BRS can be valuable in assessing the development and progression of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension. Although Ponemah doesn’t provide a direct BRS calculation, the data necessary to perform the calculations are available for export to Excel for further analysis.

Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) is an indirect measure of arterial stiffness, and the speed pressure waves travel through the lumen of a blood vessel. In the clinic, a higher pulse wave velocity is correlated with increased vascular stiffening (Hodis, 2011). Increased vascular stiffening is related to multiple cardiovascular diseases. DSI offers dual pressure telemetry solutions that when combined with Ponemah for acquisition and analysis provides highly accurate pulse wave velocity measurements in rats, dogs, NHPs, and other larger animals.

Signal Interface

The new Signal Interface is a flexible, robust solution for acquiring non-telemetric analog or digital signals and synchronizing them with your telemetry data in Ponemah v6.50.  Access the full potential of your data by creating an integrative, comprehensive study when combining telemetry with tools such as:

  • Langendorff isolated heart perfusion system
  • Pressure catheters
  • Blood flow meters
  • Running wheels and treadmills
  • Stimulus delivery tools
  • And more!

About DSI Events

Data Sciences International (DSI) is involved in over 60 events every year. These include scientific meetings such as industry trade shows, courses and seminars, workshops, as well as educational user groups and symposia all over the world.

DSI supported educational events are scientific meetings organized in cooperation with a local institution or society, pharmaceutical company, university, or local telemetry user group. Educational event meetings serve as an educational forum in which researchers can freely share current scientific information with their peers, students, and other interested scientists.

Common to the general theme of the meetings is the data collected through physiological monitoring of freely moving conscious laboratory animals made possible through the use of fully implantable telemetry technology.

Presentations and posters on the latest methods employed by the presenting researchers enable those attending to benefit from the as yet unpublished work of peers. Presentations can be on a wide range of related research topics including surgical implantation methods, data analysis methods, treatment effects of new pharmaceutical compounds, new animal models, behavioral and physiological interactions, basic research on physiological systems, and numerous other whole animal chronic monitoring research topics.

Meetings are held in classroom style with ample time allowed for questions and discussion among the participants. Typical audience sizes run from 40 to 120.
