Data Sciences International Purchases Ponemah

St. Paul, Minnesota, February 3, 2006 – Over the past 20 years, wireless physiologic monitoring has evolved from a rarely used technology for specialized research to the “gold standard” used by virtually all major pharmaceutical companies worldwide. Today the company who pioneered the market, Data Sciences International (DSI), announced the purchase of the LDS Life Sciences business assets from LDS Test and Measurement, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of SPX Corporation. The software products of LDS Life Sciences are principally sold under the “Ponemah” brand name and the hardware product line was originally developed by Gould Instrument Systems, Inc. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The combined offering of DSI and Ponemah will yield strong value for life science researchers in terms of increased speed of discovery and safety assessment as well as reduced overall costs. New drugs are increasingly expensive to develop with cost estimates approaching $1 billion per new FDA approved compound. Lance Wallin, DSI General Manager noted that “DSI is committed to developing new technologies to help the industry identify the most promising new compounds as early as possible and concentrate resources on focused and rigorous safety assessment.”

The combined customer list of DSI and Ponemah includes virtually all of the top 20 drug development companies in the world. These companies will benefit from the transaction by having an advanced information and sensor platform that offers full system integration and data portability along with greater ease-of-use and lower training costs. Ponemah will remain located in the suburban Cleveland area.

About DSI

DSI, founded in 1984, is the global leader in implantable telemetric (wireless) physiologic monitors for use by life science researchers primarily to accelerate assessment of pre-clinical drug discovery and safety and to speed basic research in academic, medical device and government markets. Commonly measured parameters include arterial blood pressure, ECG, EEG, body temperature and activity levels.

About Ponemah

Ponemah distributes non wireless sensor systems and is the established leader in the advanced acquisition and simultaneous analysis of physiologic data from a broad array of sensor systems. DSI and Ponemah operate in many of the same market segments and have been co-marketing partners since 2000. Many life science research customers input DSI’s telemetry derived data into Ponemah systems for advanced analysis in conjunction with other sensor inputs. Ponemah was founded in 1986.
