American Society for Microbiology - Biothreats

Formerly known as the ASM Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases Research Meeting, the 2017 ASM Biothreats: Research, Response, and Policy meeting will discuss a wide-range of biological threats and emerging infectious diseases to stimulate knowledge-sharing amongst stakeholders in academia, industry and government; and to help the overlapping communities prepare for, mitigate, and prevent these global threats.

This year, the meeting incorporates three major tracks, “Research, Response, and Policy” to cover relevant topics in basic and applied research; public health, emergency response and preparedness; and biosecurity, government, and policy responses. The exchange between these multidisciplinary communities will shape the future of this very important field.

Stop by and visit DSI at booth #6!

DSI Hosted Workshop
Date: Tuesday, February 7th
Time: 11:15am - 12:15pm
Location: Marriott Wardman Park - Wilson Room A&B

Title:
In Vivo Physiologic Monitoring: Advancing Infectious Disease Research Through Translational Endpoints Captured from Wireless Monitoring Methods

Description:
In vivo monitoring offers new insights into physiologic endpoints explored when characterizing animal models or evaluating the efficacy of medical countermeasures. Access to this information enables one to possibly identify disease correlates that might predict survival or differences in treatments. During this one-hour session, Dr. Daniel Sanford and Dr. Douglas Reed will present both research and retrospective, demonstrating the impact of wirelessly capturing translational endpoints upon their studies and methodologies.

Lunch will be provided.

Presenters:
Daniel C. Sanford, Ph.D.; Life Sciences Research, Battelle
Douglas S. Reed, Ph.D.; Department of Immunology, University of Pittsburgh

About DSI Events

Data Sciences International (DSI) is involved in over 60 events every year. These include scientific meetings such as industry trade shows, courses and seminars, workshops, as well as educational user groups and symposia all over the world.

DSI supported educational events are scientific meetings organized in cooperation with a local institution or society, pharmaceutical company, university, or local telemetry user group. Educational event meetings serve as an educational forum in which researchers can freely share current scientific information with their peers, students, and other interested scientists.

Common to the general theme of the meetings is the data collected through physiological monitoring of freely moving conscious laboratory animals made possible through the use of fully implantable telemetry technology.

Presentations and posters on the latest methods employed by the presenting researchers enable those attending to benefit from the as yet unpublished work of peers. Presentations can be on a wide range of related research topics including surgical implantation methods, data analysis methods, treatment effects of new pharmaceutical compounds, new animal models, behavioral and physiological interactions, basic research on physiological systems, and numerous other whole animal chronic monitoring research topics.

Meetings are held in classroom style with ample time allowed for questions and discussion among the participants. Typical audience sizes run from 40 to 120.
